Fatal hit & run
June 6, 2009

A young father is run over, and left for dead in the middle of a Port Charlotte roadway. Now, police need your help identifying and tracking down the person responsible.

Two little boys learn to live without a father – facing a future without the dad who was raising them – a young man struck down in a hit and run – and whose attacker is still at large.

"It’s sad – he was a good kid. Sad that he’s not going to get the opportunity to have the same kind of life we had," said Tab Teehee, the victim's father.

20-year-old Alex Teehee was in the prime of his life – the proud father of two little boys who was run over by an unknown driver – and left for dead in a Port Charlotte neighborhood. Tab Teehee remembers getting that life-changing phone call on July 13th - and then learning that his son didn’t stand a chance to survive.

“He was brain dead. Basically, there wasn’t anything else they could do," Teehee said.

Witnesses say Alex was here in the area of the fishing pier on Bayshore Drive in Charlotte County earlier that evening. What lies in question now is what happened between here and about two blocks down the road – where Alex was found in the middle of the road – suffering from massive brain injuries.

Alex Teehee’s family says it’s hard for them to believe that the person who took their son’s life is still on the run. Each day, they wake up with questions as to why their son was run over – and why the driver just kept going.

“They didn’t stay here with him – even if it was an accident, there were things they could have done to potentially save his life," Teehee said.

The Teehee family is now imploring the public’s help to come forward with information on Alex’s death – why it happened, if it was intended, and who is responsible.

“Everybody was exchanging a lot of rumors and suspicion of what happened early on – and I think there are a people out there who know a great deal who haven’t bothered to talk," Teehee said.

Tab Teehee hopes that under the cloak of anonymity, someone will come forward with details to help bring justice for his son – and the two sons Alex left behind.

“This is a little different because accident’s happen. This wasn’t an accident. It wasn’t," Teehee said.

Anyone with information about the hit and run death of 20 year old Alex Teehee is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477). All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for up to $1,000 in cash rewards. Tips can also be made online at www.swflcrimestoppers.org.
