Slain family man’s employer offers additional cash reward in hopes of finding a killer
A Fort Myers business is offering an additional $5,000 in reward money in hopes of tracking down, and convicting, the person responsible for the death of one of their most valued employees, Domingo Gutierrez-Leon.
Last Friday evening, Gutierrez-Leon was gunned down in front of his home at 563 Prospect Ave., Fort Myers, while on the phone with his wife in Guatemala. The killer managed to make a quick escape before friends found the hard working 49 year old shot. Gutierrez-Leon was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital’s Trauma Center, where he later succumbed to his fatal injuries. His long-time employer, Crowther Roofing and Sheet Metal of Florida, Inc., is now hoping the lure of an additional $5,000 in reward money, in addition to the $1,000 being offered by Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers, will encourage someone with information on the person responsible for Gutierrez-Leon’s murder to come forward anonymously.
“There is no way to put a price on a human life,” said Lee Crowther of Crowther Roofing and Sheet Metal, a fourth generation family-owned business. “Domingo was one of our most valued employees. He was a very hard worker and was very dedicated to his trade. He was also a good hearted family man, and sent most of his paycheck back home to his family in Guatemala. His murder is a travesty, and as a business who knew first hand what kind of good man Domingo was, we want to do whatever we can to help bring his killer to justice.”
Trish Routte, Coordinator of Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers, said one anonymous phone call could be the key to effecting a quick arrest in the case.
“The life of a good man was taken abruptly, and someone needs to be held responsible for that action,” Routte said. “Now is the time that we need anyone who has any information on the party or parties responsible to come forward and do the right thing for an innocent man, and his family.”
Anyone with information on the murder of Domingo Gutierrez-Leon is asked to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477). All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000 from Crime Stoppers, and an additional $5,000 from Crowther Roofing and Sheet Metal, upon the arrest and conviction of the murderer. Tips may also be made online at www.swflcrimestoppers.org or by texting a tip to CRIMES (274637) Keyword: REWARD.
