One year later, family still searching for answers in young man’s murder

One year ago today, the lifeless body of 25 year old Kyle Byrtus was found in a field on Meadow Drive in Lehigh Acres.  And despite the time that’s passed, the person or persons responsible for his murder have yet to face justice, and Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers is hoping someone in the know will do the right thing and come forward with information.

Byrtus was a graduate of Fort Myers High School, where he was captain of the track team.  His academic and athletic abilities earned him a college scholarship and after graduation, he seemed destined for great success.  But an unfortunate twist of fate led Byrtus in the wrong direction, and in a very short amount of time, he found himself involved with drug addiction.  His family and friends convinced Byrtus to seek treatment, which he did, however he continued to fall backwards each time.

Although his body was found in Lehigh Acres, detectives say he was known to frequent the Pine Manor area.  Shortly after his murder, posters were distributed throughout the community, in hopes that someone would come forward with information about his murder, or what may have led up to it.  However, that pivotal knowledge has yet to be shared.

“Kyle Byrtus had the makings of a highly successful young man,” said Trish Routte, Crime Stoppers Coordinator. “He made a few bad choices, and was struggling to find his way back to a healthy place, but someone stole that opportunity from him.  Kyle’s family and friends are still struggling with the loss, and are having a hard time knowing that whoever is responsible for his death is still out there – especially today.”

Anyone with information on the murder if Kyle Byrtus is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).  All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.  Tips may also be made online at www.swflcrimestoppers.org or by texting a tip to CRIMES (274637) Keyword: REWARD.

Note:  Several pictures of Kyle, as well as the poster that was distributed in the community, are attached to this release.
