Crime Stoppers youngest “Most Wanted” suspect arrested this morning
A 20 year old repeat offender, who’s been committing felony crimes in Lee County since the young age of just 11, has finally been taken into custody. Members of the US Marshals Fugitive Warrants Task Force arrested Fernando Vega, DOB 2/5/93, just before 9 a.m. this morning in North Cape Coral. Vega had been on the run for just over three months, this time for violating terms of his community control following an arrest for burglary and grand theft.
Vega has been jailed for 10 felonies as a minor, amassing a rap sheet that included multiple charges of burglary, grand theft auto, dealing in stolen property, assault with a deadly weapon and possessing a firearm at the age of 14. As an adult, he’s been arrested for two counts of aggravated battery on a pregnant victim, violation of an order for protection and being a deadbeat dad. This morning, US Marshals found Vega hiding out in a closet in a residence at NW 21st Street, along with his girlfriend and infant child.
“With information from the community, coupled with relentless dedication on the part of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the US Marshals Fugitive Warrants Task Force, it was only a matter of time before Vega was apprehended,” said Trish Routte, Crime Stoppers Coordinator. “Fernando Vega has been a blight on our community for most of his life and hopefully the judicial system will look at his complete criminal history when they doll out his sentence.”
Vega is currently enroute to the Lee County Jail where he will be booked shortly, and then held without bond.
Anyone with information on any wanted fugitive is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477). All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000. Tips may also be made online at www.swflcrimestoppers.org or by texting a tip to CRIMES (274637) Keyword: REWARD.
Note: Photos of Vega’s first and last mug shots are attached to this release. The mugshot from this morning’s arrest should be made available later this morning on the Lee County Sheriff’s Office’s public website.
